Speedway Motors, a manufacturer, retailer, and distributor of high-quality automotive parts and racing products, plans to open a distribution center in Jefferson County, bringing 25 new jobs to West Virginia. 

The Jefferson County Development Authority is seeking an Administrative Assistant to perform administrative, clerical, and day-to-day office activities including, but not limited to, bookkeeping, processing accounts payables and receivables, providing customer service, preparing meeting minutes, preparing reports and other correspondence, filing, and answering telephones.

The Jefferson County Development Authority (JCDA) has completed a four-year strategic plan that will guide JCDA leaders in creating a sustainable organization and economic development program for Jefferson County.

For the past 10 months, JCDA board members and staff have been reviewing the organization’s strengths and weaknesses, assessing the county’s development needs and opportunities, and gathering community input to develop a road map for the organization. The resulting strategic plan includes a revised organizational mission statement, defines five core values, identifies seven goals for 2021-2025, and outlines several strategies for each goal.

Opportunity Zone incentives can be a vital step forward for community revitalization. Created as part of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Opportunity Zones are designed to promote economic development, support recovery, and improve the outcomes in distressed communities. Investors can receive tax incentives for investing in rural and low-income areas.  Businesses can benefit from the real estate or business investments within these opportunity zones while also enjoying tax deferring benefits on any capital gains received from these investments.

Three Jefferson County businesses were among the 30 West Virginia companies that were recognized by state officials for exporting a good or service to a new country last year during a virtual ceremony on Aug. 26.
